Prof. Dr. Serif Senturk

Prof. Serif Senturk is a Research Group Leader at Izmir Biomedicine and Genom Center and an Associate Professor at the Department of Genome Sciences and Molecular Biotechnology, Izmir International Biomedicine and Genome Institute (iBG-izmir), Dokul Eylul University. At DEU iBG-izmir, he is a faculty member of Molecular Biology and Genetics Graduate Program. Dr. Senturk completed his postdoctoral training with Dr. Raffaella Sordella at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (Long Island, NY) (2010-2015). He received his Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. Mehmet Ozturk from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey) in 2010. During his doctoral studies, he was appointed as a visiting student at the Institut Albert Bonniot (Grenoble, France) in 2009. Dr. Senturk holds a B.Sc. degree from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey) and he also studied as an intern student in the laboratory of Dr. Ralph Menzel at the Institute of Biology, Ecotoxicology & Biochemistry, Freie Universitat (Berlin, Germany).

Prof. Senturk has authored original articles in journals such as Nature Communications, PNAS, Hepatology, Nanomedicine, and eLife. He also reviewed the literature and published comprehensive review articles in Cancers, Cells, International Journal of Cancer, Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, and International Journal of Molecular Sciences. Besides his journal publications, he contributed to the publication of several book chapters. He also has an approved US patent on cancer treatment. Prof. Senturk has received several awards, including the Outstanding Young Scientists Awards (GEBÄ°P) from Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) from Science Academy.
Dr. Senturk is married with two children, Arel and Lina. He has been a gym fanatic for almost 20 years now. He is also an ardent music lover with more than 100.000 minutes of listening on Spotify in 2021 (~185.000 minutes in 2023!). He likes all sorts of music, but his favorite genres are Oldies, Blues, and Soul.
